Zee Closure 34-2011

Here’s a quick update on this weeks web soap. Biggest news this week was of course Steve Jobs stepping down as CEO. It will be very interesting to see what that will do to the company and it’s future. The switch did not come as a surprise as there were plenty of rumors about Steve’s health going around. Heck, share holders have been asking about it over half a year ago.

And then there’s Samsung, still not safe on European soil, with a German court giving them the finger and a Dutch court following suit. But both courts have a different opinion on the matter so it’s not dry and cut just yet. Let’s see what the German court will decide soon. Either way, if you’re set on getting a Samsung device, I wouldn’t sit around and wait too long ;)

There’s still uncertainty about the future of WebOS. On the other hand, the TouchPad has been extremely popular due to the firesale and their prices dropping to $100 and $150. It was never a bad device, just not worth the original price tag. Let’s see what HP will do with that, since they have a much bigger user base it might still be interesting for them to continue supporting the device. Just accept the few million loss and continue with the result. It’s not like HP couldn’t take that hit.

In the meantime, the Acer CEO declared the end of the tablet land rush. Wait, Acer? I guess they should know with their major tablet market share.

So what else happened in the land of web, mobile and JavaScript? Here’s some interesting linkbait for ya! An interesting blog post about closures. How to use js in PhotoShop. A Haskell interpreter. A web audio spectrum analyzer. Codecadamy, a learning resource. A fav-icon generator. My post about for-in syntax. Nice Chrome experiment. Blog post about using bools in API design. And an old game, Paratrooper.

See you next week!
